Radiant Red Ikat Holiday

The inspiration for this holiday party came from the Ikat fabric featured on the wall behind the dessert table. Ikat is a dying process similar to tie-dye, but the threads are dyed before construction. This red and white repeating pattern was in the shape of a glass blown Christmas ornament. It had just the right touch of holiday color and modern, natural aesthetics.


We handmade the magnolia leaf wreaths and spray painted them lacquer white. If you follow our work long enough you'll see that there's nothing we won't spray paint! We found the red books at an antique store and some other pieces on this table were found at our favorite stores, West Elm and Crate & Barrel.

 We kept the color story easy and modern, but brought out the details in the textures, from the woven strands of the Persian fairy floss that adorned the pudding, the shredded flakes of the coconut cupcakes, down to the smooth and uniform petals of the succulents. Persian fairy floss also known as Pashmak proved harder to get than we thought. We tried to order from pariya.com and were told that they were temporarily unable to ship the the US. We weren't able to find any other US company who sold it. I turned to an etsy seller from the store iPashmak who didn't even have pashmak as an item at the store but agreed to make it for us! Thank goodness because it looked amazing on the milk pudding.

The ornamental Ikat reappears in paper with the name cards pinned to the backs of the dining chairs. A white lacquer branch and ribbon polish off this festive touch. These marvelous succulents bring in a soft sprinkle of green while the vibrant red peonies and gold candlelight radiate the warmth of the season.


Finding flowers for this table was another adventure. We didn't want the traditional look of roses but the only other "bushy" looking flower available in red were carnations. The florist we work with said that it's sad that carnations were seen as the "iceberg lettuce" of the flower world because she likes them. After a few unsuccessful trips to the San Francisco flower mart we decided to get silk flowers. We were nervous about how they would look they turned out great.

The real fun and whimsy of this party is found at the hot cocoa bar, where guests are invited to grab a mug of cocoa and customize it to their liking with caramels, whipped cream, toffee chips, homemade marshmallows, and chocolate and peppermint dipped spoons. A DIY for the homemade marshmallows is coming soon! All of this atop vintage board games that can be played while enjoying a one-of-a-kind chocolaty creation. The hearty succulents were so beautiful that we had to give them away as favors, so our friends and family could take a little bit of our holiday with them.

Havana Nights

Welcome to Havana Nights! Our fabulous clients Trey and Paul wanted us to create a dessert table based on the ad and logo for their event. When we looked at this design it made us think of old Havana. We wanted to take that concept and make it hip and chic. A little sparkle sand here a little bit of white palm branches there and you have Havana with a taste of Miami nightclub!

Everyone had a favorite dessert. Our clients adored the vanilla cake pops with cream cheese frosting. After the DJ sampled all the treats, the peanut butter pretzels were hands down his favorite.

Great care was taken in recreating our client's company's logo. We placed it on the mini cupcakes, red velvet cake pops, and on the labels.

These Casablanca lilies lit up in the coral colored submersible lights.

Who can resist the sand and palm leaves? If there weren't food on it, we'd be tempted to sink our feet into it.

Send in the Clowns

We are excited to present pictures of a carnival party we did this weekend. We worked with a wonderful client who owns a daycare. She wanted to transform her backyard into a carnival for a day of fun for the daycare kids and their parents. We used traditional carnival colors and carried them throughout the decor.

The whimsical dessert table was the centerpiece of the event. Jennifer created cupcakes topped with marshmallows cut to look like little buckets of popcorn. Clown cake pops were complimented by theme color cake pops for a lovely display. Jennifer custom dyed candy melts to get just the right turquoise coating for the cake pops. Jeff created the amazing large "Welcome to the Carnival" sign on the dessert table backdrop as well as the mini pennant hanging on striped straws between two cupcakes.

Custom sewn carnival game backdrops added splashes of color to the backyard. Striped fabric in the color theme wasn't readily available so we custom striped the fabric from solid pieces to ensure the color theme stayed true. Jeff designed beautiful game signs for each booth.

Kids enjoyed a caricature artist and played games with a clown on stilts.Guests indulged in cotton candy and popcorn from nostalgic machines.

At the prize table we gathered like prizes together in mason jars to create an old fashioned carnival feel. Flags on striped straws in the mason jars told the kids the ticket value of each prize.

One guest commented that the only thing missing was a roller coaster! Many thanks to our client Lori for allowing us to create this wonderful day!

We had an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weeny, yellow bumble bee small party!

For Arden's 3rd birthday Jennifer had a stroke of genius, let's do a tiny party! A tiny party? Yes, we'll have the same things that every party has, only miniature. Mini signs, mini decorations, mini foods, games, invitations, you get the picture. As usual, we have a secondary theme that's a little off-shoot from our primary. We also featured bees, because they're tiny and adorable, like Arden!

Tiny pendant welcome sign. We quickly learned that in order for this theme to pay off, we have to put in a lot of detail. This sign took over six hours to put together. Did it pay off? You have to look very closely for the answer.

Tiny party hats being modeled by Arden's cousins, Trinity and Genesis. Adorable and only took eight hours to put together, totally worth it.

Guests played mini games a la "Minute to Win It".

There's no scale here, but the invitations are really small, take our word for it. They're like the size of a quarter. Slight exaggeration, but the best thing was they kept getting tinier. Open up one envelope and you get another, even smaller one. Take that Russian dolls.

Cupcakes, you guessed it. What else for a tiny party?

Tom Thumb milkshake! We served an array of finger foods like finger sandwiches, baby veggies, keish, bruschetta, crab cakes, and more served on tiny plates with cocktail napkins.
